Would you believe that there is more soluble fiber in your coffee than there is in a cup of orange juice? At first thought, most people don’t associate coffee with having a high fiber content. But coffee contains soluble fiber, which is a dietary fiber that will help prevent cholesterol from being directly absorbed in your intestines.

Spanish researchers have revealed that the amount of soluble fiber in coffee is higher than people have anticipated, containing more soluble fiber than both orange juice and wine. It’s interesting to point out that the highest levels of soluble fiber are found in instant and not freshly ground coffee. Instant coffee contains 1.8 g of soluble fiber, espresso at 1.5 g, and filtered coffee at 1.1 g.

Of course, coffee should be coupled with a healthy diet rich in soluble fiber for the best health benefits. To meet your daily fiber requirements, you’d have to drink 17 cups of coffee or more each day to get enough fiber, which could affect your health for the worse.

Enjoying coffee in moderation due to its soluble fiber content is yet another reason to pour a cup of Joe or two every morning. But if you don’t want to sacrifice flavor, then you may not want to switch to instant coffee just yet…
